On Friday Dec 2 in class, I will be accepting requests from project teams on a first come, first served basis for project presentation times.
Nov 4
Class project teams are announced.
Oct 27
The extended case study is now available.
Oct 24
This week and next week are very important to attend class and to consider the following:
- Weds, Oct 26
I will go over last year's midterm in class. This year's midterm will
have the exact same format {an e-r diagram, questions about data
definition, questions about data manipulation} all based on a case
study.
- Thurs, Oct 27
between 5 and 6 pm I will post linked to this class news page an
extended case study from which the midterm case study will be taken. The
extended case study is much longer but is an excellent tool to use in
studying for the midterm.
- Fri, Oct 28 the midterm will be in class and make use of a subset of the case study that I posted on Oct 27.
- Students
wishing to work with other students in their class project team must
provide me a written request signed by all student involved no later
than class time on Weds Nov 2.
Project teams will have 5 students per team and so 2, 3, 4, or 5
students can ask to work together. Requests will be honored as long as
there is not major differences in the quality of the student's
Assignment 3.
- Mon Oct 31 and Weds Nov 2 I will be lecturing on issues relating to combining databases. There will not be notes posted for these lectures. This material is very important for the class project that will start on Fri Nov 4.
- Weds Nov 2 I will be asking all students to fill out timetables in class on to help me in setting up project teams.
- Weds Nov 2
Assignment 3 is due at 11 am. The marker will be giving me a quick
estimate of the quality of your Assignment 3 for me to use in setting
up project teams.
- Friday Nov 4
I will be announcing project teams and giving students a chance to
briefly get together to arrange the start of their project work. I will
also be handing back and going over the midterm exam.

Sept 7, 2016
Demand
for enrollment in CMPT 355 has greatly exceeded capacity for the single
tutorial section that was placed in the registration system's "class
build". As a result, we have added a second tutorial time (5:30-6:50)
in addition to the officially scheduled time (4:00-5:20) to provide
space for all the students registered this term. Attendance at both
times is on a first come - first served basis.
We again have the
services of Edgar Lelei as tutor. Edgar has considerable experience
with this course and is a major resource for students in using the
software. While Edgar is the source of expert advice regards using the
software, please remember that all questions regarding interpreting the
requirements of assignments and the project should be addressed to
Prof. Carter.

the class
Please check this page regularly for the latest updates. New
